Next Week in Wrestling | March 6th To March 12th

Unless you like one specific promotion, this week is very much a filler week. You might very well need this week as preparation for the craziness coming until the beginning of April. On the other hand, since there is nothing big going on, it’s the perfect opportunity to check out the Recommendation of the Week. Here’s your pro wrestling schedule for the upcoming week!

Recommendation of the Week: wXw’s 16 Carat Gold Tournament

The biggest Tournament in Germany is back and the highlight of this week’s pro wrestling schedule! The 16 Carat Gold has had some phenomenal winners like Zack Sabre Jr., El Generico, and Ilja Dragunov, who are now worldwide stars. However this year, the contest comes with a Twist. The newly vacated wXw Unified World Wrestling Championship will be awarded to the winner of the 16 Carat. It was decided, by the Authority Figure Norman Harras, that the previous champion Levaniel needed to defend the Title in the Tournament. But he could not manage to win a 4-Way match to qualify for the 16 Carat and thus was stripped of his title.

But now the question is, who can step up to get the title? The lineup is a mix of the best wrestlers in Europe and fly-ins from all over the world. It seems unlikely that one of the fly-ins will win the Title. Nevertheless, I hope that the tournament can be a restart for wXw and regain the momentum, that was lost in the pandemic.

The New Japan Cup is in full force with its first and second round matchups continuing this week. The only match that stands out this week is the potential clash between the KOPW Champion Shingo Takagi and the NEVER Openweight Champion Tama Tonga. But that is not all. On Monday, there will be the New Japan Anniversary show. The main attraction of it is definitely Hiroshi Tanahashi and Kazuchika Okada teaming up to challenge Bishamon for their tag titles.

STARDOM

The road to retirement continues for Himeka with two matches. Himeka hasn’t forgiven Natsupoi for betraying Donna Del Mondo and thus they will square off once one Friday in singles competition and again the night after in tag competition with their tag partners Maika and Tam Nakano respectively. The tag titles are on the line as well on Friday, as BMI2000 takes on 7Upp.

The next iteration of Baka Gaijin & Friends is upon us and we have a wonderful match to look forward to in Maya Yukihi vs Chris Brookes. Maya has been making waves in Stardom’s Triangle Derby and in her match against Giulia this past week. With the talent of Chris Brookes, this one is a big recommendation.

Gunther’s reign as Intercontinental Champion continues toward Wrestlemania, but there he will face one (at least) of these five wrestlers. My guess is that Sheamus and Drew pin or submit someone at the same time, which creates a triple threat match at Wrestlemania. Meiko Satomura challenges Roxxanne Perez for her NXT Womens Championship as Carmella pursues Bianca Belair’s Raw Womens Championship.

WSW

Australian promotion World Series Wrestling promotes quite a tour down under with a lot of talent from overseas. In a four-day event, we have Matt Cardona going after the WSW World Title of Johnny Downunder, Brian Cage clashing with Josh Alexander, and a huge six-man clash between TJP, Joey Janela, Bandido, Chris Basso, Effy, and Flip Gordon.

HOG

Low Ki has been a mainstay in House of Glory and has had some awesome matches recently in the promotion. This one will certainly not be different. The ultrafast KUSHIDA is always an attraction, so pairing him with Low Ki is a good move. Max the Impaler and Jacob Fatu will also appear at the show.

Overview

Aside from the 16 Carat, this is a very quiet week in wrestling. But let me promise you, this is just the calm before the storm because we will only have insane weeks for the rest of the month. Did I miss anything on this week’s pro wrestling schedule? What are you excited about the most? Send me all your feedback to @UpcomingWrestl1 on Twitter.
